At shimauma sanctuary, we are launching a new series, “Northern Lights,” showcasing emerging artists from the Tohoku region.
The first exhibition features Rei Inokuma, a metalwork artist who graduated from Tohoku University of Art and Design in March 2025. His show, “pop out,” presents sculptures inspired by quick sketches of everyday objects, now transformed into three-dimensional metal forms. The lines seem to lift off the paper, creating works that surprise and warm the viewer simultaneously. His works will also be available to purchase.

“Northern Lights” aims to spotlight new talent from northern Tohoku and share their vision for the future.

*The artist will be present on October 11th (Sat) and 12th (Sun).
*During the exhibition, shimauma kitchen will be open from 11:30 to 16:30

【artist’s statement】
By transforming quick sketches of everyday objects into three-dimensional metal forms, I aim to capture the flowing energy and lightness of the original lines. These works give familiar items new life, inviting viewers to enjoy their visual playfulness while rediscovering the hidden beauty in daily life.
